"The Call in the Dark"

The Call in the Dark

A voice went by in the dark
        Crying “Follow, follow me!”
I strained my eyes, but alas!
        I could not see.

But the voice plead in the dark,
“Thou knewest me in thy youth,
Hast thou forgotten me now?
        My name is Truth.”

"The Call in the Dark" as it appears in Ella Higginson's The Voice of April-Land (1903).
