I Thank Thee, God
For my small corner of the world―
Blue sea, blue sky and pale green sod,
And noble mountains glistening mistily―
I thank Thee, God!
For deeps where white syringa droops,
And dogwood-blossoms shyly nod,
And the wild currant swings her crimson lamps―
I thank Thee, God!
For the sweet clover at my door,
Set all day long with golden bees;
The dewdrops linked along a blade of grass,
The bending trees;
The slender vine about my porch,
The meadow-lark at dawn that sings―
I thank Thee, God, that I have purest joy
In simple things!
"I Thank Thee, God" as it appears in Ella Higginson's When the Birds Go North Again (1898).
